Avonside 1938 AsW

Avonside 1938 AsW was a British steam locomotive built by Avonside Engine Company in 1938. It was part of a series of locomotives built for the Great Western Railway (GWR) and was designed to haul express passenger trains. It was one of the last of the GWR's "Castle" class locomotives, and was the only one of the class to be built by Avonside. The locomotive was initially allocated to Old Oak Common shed in London, and later moved to Reading shed in Berkshire. During its service life, it hauled express passenger trains on the Great Western Main Line and was used on the Reading to Paddington line. The locomotive was withdrawn from service in 1964 and was sold for scrap in 1967.
